Garnets are the jewelry stones known to humanity from the ancient times.
The garnet has received Its name from Latin “granatus” - grainy, resembling grains of fruit of grenades. People often consider garnets as only the stone of the red color. In reality the family of garnets consists of the large number of varieties, whose color varies from the colorless to the black.
The Czech Republic (Bohemia) became the first source of the garnet of pyrope in Europe. Under the historical sources the first references about findings of the garnet of pyrope in this territory relate to 13 century, and already to 16 century the active development of it is conducted. For the Czech Republic the garnet becomes the national precious stone. In the old-Czech legends and fairy tales the garnet was successfully called “iskrik” (from Czech – “that sparkles”).
From the antiquity different magic properties were attributed to garnets. They symbolize perseverance and force, constancy and devotion, health and faithfulness. Red garnets are the stone of love, anger and blood, flame and passion.
